MAKE IT YOURSELF : NOURISHING FACE MASK

Just 3 ingredients - Why so simple?

In the vast & complicated climate that is skincare at the moment, with expensive 8-step routines going viral on Tik-Tok and our precious little lives being complicated enough, we believe the the remedy is always to simplify, this is why our ingredient lists on our products are simple and natural, but we believe it is always best to use what you have accessible to you first and foremost.

Mask recipe
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Charcoal
2 tsp Honey

Mix until a medium thickness / creamy consistency that wont run off your face - you will most likely need to modify this recipe depending on the type/consistency of the honey you’re using.
Apply and leave on for 20-40 minutes.

Warning: THIS MASK STAINS, truly, turmeric stains everything so wear old black clothes and don’t get this on anything other than your face (:
- it can take some time of scrub off, don’t stress, you’ll absolutely need to double cleanse. We recommend first going in with our Cleansing Cream then a secondary scrub with x2 pumps of our Golden Oil, or any nourishing face oil you have accessible to you!

HONEY— raw, wild, organic honey from local beekeepers is best, if accessible—to reap the best antibacterial and antiviral benefits. Healthy honey, (not over processed ‘honey’ containing high-fructose corn syrup) is an incredible nectar for skin as it can even skin tone, soothe irritated skin and speed up healing process of scars.

ACTIVATED CHARCOAL—Is known to work like a magnet to toxins, dirt, and other impurities that can gather in the skin, clarifying blackheads and purifying pores. Charcoal can help remove impurities and improve the skin's texture.

TURMERIC—While sometimes messy, Turmeric is incredibly essential and beneficial when is comes to maintaining healthy skin because it has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial AND antioxidant properties—all of which not only help protect the skin cells but also enhance radiance / daily glow.

SELF CARE MOOD:

Can I add a clay to my mask?

Absolutely, adding the earths natural clays to homemade face masks is a popular and beautiful step and can be beneficial, occasionally, for those with oilier and acne-prone skin types, for more of a ‘pore calming mask.’ However, if your skin is more on the drier side—already lacking adequate oil/water for a healthy barrier, then any added clay can absorb the good natural oils and cause further dehydration.

This is why we generally choose to use charcoal instead of clay, as charcoal has similar detoxifying properties but wont dry or crack on your face.

In truth, we have learned that if you’re suffering with dry skin, then letting anything dry hard or crack on your face generally leads to further dehydration and in some cases, you can wash this type of mask off and have your skin feeling more dry and have fine lines become more visible than before, and.. if you know anything about Monsoon Skin than you know our business is to Hydrate!

On that note: If you're wanting a more convenient & less messy option check out our Hydrating Overnight Jelly Mask! It is water-based and does not dry hard, sticky or crack on your face - it also dries clear and is super easy to wash off, for less mess - this makes ideal for more frequent use and is the best bedtime companion!

Pop it on before bed and wash it off in the morning, especially if you’re sleeping under an air conditioner or heater - as while necessary in some cases (including mine, I live in the tropics!) Unfortunately both can suck the life out of healthy skin.

We hope you love this homemade mask and find time to weave it into your weekly routine!

With love,
Denise - Monsoon Skin
